On 23 July Mukoko village in central Kalungu district hosted more than 100 guests who came together to celebrate the launch of a new solar-powered water point. With six distribution centres, including one on the premises of a primary school, the new site was inaugurated together with members of the local community and district and national level officials.
A performance by school children quite possibly marked the highlight of the day. It also served as a stark reminder why this water project is so important. It ensures better health through easy access to clean water, but it also ensures the natural environment is protected and measures are taken to mitigate against the impacts of climate change.
The Hon. Aisha Ssekindi, Minister of State for Water who presided over the launch, described the project as “an investment in dignity, health, and economic transformation.”
The SCIF Operations Director, Ola Bankole, underscored SCIF’s continued commitment to improving health, working to empower women and girls and standing with communities to strengthen climate resilience.
